Printing on apparel
Type of printing
Most of the apparel items in our catalog are printed using Direct to Garment (DTG) printing method because it allows for maximum detail in design and color options. It is also more cost-effective for our partners.
DTG is a method where a printer directly applies the ink onto the t-shirt with inkjet technology. It involves a special printer, which prints the ink directly onto the garment in the desired design. DTG uses specialty inks, which are absorbed by the fibers of the garment.
Additionally, we offer edge-to-edge in All-Over Print T-shirts, and you can check the details out in our catalog.
All of our apparel vendors are using Kornit printers.
For the DTG process, we use Kornit inks for our direct to garment printing that is specific to our manufacturers' presses. These are all water-based inks. Offset inks are for paper printing, and water-based inks can be used for DTG or screen print production. Read more about Kornit inks here.
Stock vs non-stock
We offer two levels of fulfillment and production timeframes. Our standard production time for apparel is 3-4 business for the items our manufacturers keep in stock. We also allow our partners to sell items that are not kept on-site at the vendors’ facilities. We call these products “non-stock” apparel.
Two Tiers of Apparel Stocking:
Stocked Apparel: These are items that are always available, barring any unforeseen circumstances such as a nationwide shortage of a specific shirt color or brand.
Stock Apparel takes up to 3-4 business days to produce. If the order for a factory stocked garment spends 6 business days in production, you will receive expedited shipping as a courtesy for the delay. If the order doesn’t ship on the 6th business day, we will upgrade the shipping to overnight.
Non-stock Apparel: These are items that we offer in the Gooten catalog, but they’re not kept onsite in the supply rooms at the manufacturer. When an order comes in for a non-stock item, the vendor orders the blank apparel item and ships it to their facility to be printed.
Non-stock apparel items generally take 2-3 business days to reach our vendor and another 3-4 business days for production. If the vendor does not ship the item to your customer on the 8th business day after placing the order, we will upgrade the shipping at no additional cost to you.
We do not keep all colors of a specific model in stock. When an order for a non-stock color comes in, our vendor must order the blank apparel item directly from the manufacturer. For this reason, we quote production time for non-stock items at 7 business days. We recommend checking our in-stock models here before placing your order.
Popular t-shirt models
Choosing the right shirt model from the broad range of our apparel offering might seem slightly overwhelming, but not too worry, we’re here to help!
The most popular t-shirts we offer are:
Bella 3001 (premium)
Tultex 202 (standard)
Tultex 213 (standard)
District DT6000 (basic)
For more information about each of them, please visit our catalog.
Gooten cannot guarantee that any of our products are vegan.
While the products we offer are not necessarily vegan, we do have programs in place with our top vendors to tackle environmental waste and sustainability concerns aggressively. For example, Gooten supports internal recycling programs that reduce production waste, and many of our vendors also use organic cleansers to cure garments or materials. Our apparel vendor has used vegetable-based offset inks -- which are just as vibrant and reliable -- to replace their old, petroleum-based counterparts. This same vendor also requires that all of their papers come from responsibly forested land and focus on adding garment stock that contains recycled content.
We're animal & planet lovers, so we continue to do our best to support manufacturers who prioritize sustainability and conservation alongside print quality and efficiency.
When it comes to home decor, our vendors have confirmed that they do not test on animals and that no animal by-products are used to make the inks.
Turn around times
The standard production turnaround time for our US-based apparel products is 3-4 business days, and we do offer tracking information for all apparel shipments from our US vendors. However, if you placed an order for an item that’s currently out of stock, the production time may take up to 7 business days. Non-stock items require our manufacturers to place an order for the blank product and wait for delivery before it can be printed. Additionally, in rare instances where the original order gets misprinted or damaged during printing, another batch has to be ordered directly from the shirt manufacturer, which leads to further delays. For more information about our apparel stocking and production times, please check out this article.
To avoid this situation, we recommend ordering the following stocked models:

Creating artworks for t-shirts
The print area for apparel products starts 1’’ below the collar. If you need your artwork to print lower, you can leave some transparent space on the top of your image.
CF, CB and CFCB
CF, CB, and CFCB relate to where on the apparel product you would like the print location.
- CF- Center Front
- CB- Center Back
- CFCB- Both Center Front and Center Back
We have prepared an in-depth article explaining how to create high-quality artwork for our products.
